Dwight E Brooks

Dwight E. Brooks began his service to ZU in 2018 as dean of the College of Communication and Media Sciences. Prior to coming to ZU, Brooks was vice dean of Hofstra University’s (New York, USA) Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. Before that, Dr. Dwight served for seven years as director of the School of Journalism at Middle Tennessee State University. He also was chair of the Department of Mass Communications at Jackson State University. Brooks was a faculty member for ten years at The University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also was an assistant professor in the Department of Telecommunications at Indiana University, Bloomington and Illinois State University. 

Brooks has extensive experiences with regional, national, and international accreditation processes. He is an active member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and the Broadcast Education Association (BEA). He was elected twice to AEJMC’s Committee on Professional Freedom and Responsibility (PF&R), and as PF&R Chair, served on the AEJMC Board. Brooks’ research on race, gender and media has been published in various journals such as Journalism and Communication Monographs and the Howard Journal of Communications. Brooks is an accomplished academic leader in fostering shared governance, international education, and student success. Dr. Dwight has worked professionally in commercial and non-commercial radio in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Mississippi (USA). He earned a master’s degree from The Ohio State University and doctorate from The University of Iowa.
