Bio

Paul started at Zayed University in January 2021. Before this he held an Associate Professor position at The University of Western Australia, from 2012- 2020. Before that, he held a Lecturer in Marketing position at the University of Southampton in the UK, from 2008-2012. He has held an Adjunct Professor position at IESEG School of Management in France since 2011.

Research

Paul’s research expertise is in digital marketing, specifically social media marketing, and spans the marketing and information systems fields. He has published his research in over 40 international journal articles and books, and presented it at over 30 international conferences.

Specific current areas of research are customer engagement, customer relationship management (CRM), influencer marketing, misinformation, polarisation, and conservation. Data is typically gathered through social media scraping, and analysed through quantitative and qualitative content analysis.

Teaching

Paul’s teaching focus is also on digital marketing, where he has delivered and coordinated undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive courses in the UK, France, Australia, and the UAE. At ZU, he teaches Digital Marketing and Introduction to Marketing at undergraduate level.

Service

At ZU, Paul is Assistant Chair of the Marketing Department in the College of Business. He was previously Acting Head of the Marketing Department at The University Western Australia.

More broadly, Paul is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Marketing Academy (ANZMAC) executive committee, serving as Vice President and responsible for their digital marketing. He is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Marketing Management, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Interactive Advertising. He has also been a PhD examiner for a range of Australian, New Zealand, and European universities.

Paul consults with industry on social media marketing, and engages regularly with the media on issues around digital marketing.
