Bio

Dr. Abiot M. Tessema is an Associate Professor at Zayed University.  He holds a PhD from Maastricht University, the Netherlands. In 2007, he earned a Master of Science in Human Development and Social Protection (Economics) from Maastricht University, a Master of Business Administration in Corporate Strategy and Economic Policy, and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Maastricht School of Management (MsM) in 2005. Named as an outstanding MBA graduate in the 2005/06 academic year, he was also the first person to receive two MBA degrees with distinction in the same academic year in MsM’s history.  He also holds the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation from Australia.  Abiot has served as an Assistant Chair of Accounting Department of College of Business of Zayed University. Before joining Zayed University, he held numerous posts including Lecturer, Chair of Accounting Department, Research and Strategy Development Director, Leadership Development Program Director, Project Review and Development Deputy Director, and Research and Publication Officer. He taught several accounting courses at the graduate and the undergraduate level in Zayed University (UAE), Maastricht University (the Netherlands), Unity University and Micro-Link Information Technology College (Ethiopia). He was named a Best Lecturer of the 2001-02 academic year and Best Employee of the Year in 2006 by Unity University’s Board. He received the Exemplary Merit Award twice in 2016 and 2018 and was nominated for awards for teaching excellence in 2017, and research and service excellence in 2018 at Zayed University, the UAE.  His research has appeared in prominent journals such as Journal of International Accounting Auditing & Taxation, International Journal of Managerial Finance, The International Finance, and The Journal International Financial Management and Accounting.  He is an active member of the CPA (Australia) and the American Accounting Association (AAA).
