Bloomberg Finance Labs Open at Zayed University
07 Apr 2019Zayed University proudly opened the largest Bloomberg finance labs in the Middle East and is Bloomberg’s largest University subscriber in the world with 64 terminals. This momentous occasion was celebrated with Her Excellency Noura Al Kaabi, The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and President of Zayed University, and Matthew Winkler, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, Bloomberg News, who officially launched and opened the Bloomberg Finance Lab.
Zayed University opened a male and female Bloomberg Lab at the Abu Dhabi Campus and a Bloomberg Lab on the Dubai campus. Professor Joseph Smallman designed the labs and said, “ZU Bloomberg Labs are similar in spirit to Etihad’s Flight Simulators. Using Bloomberg Terminal in conjunction with the StockTrak trading platform, students are taught to analyze, invest, trade and manage large portfolios without risking real money. If they crash, there is no harm done and they learn.”
Further, Professor Smallman stated that ZU is a CFA Institute Affiliated University and it will now use the ZU Bloomberg Labs in conjunction with the Zayed University Level I Chartered Financial Analyst ® enhanced training program.
The 64 Bloomberg Terminals in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses of Zayed University will provide a link to a dynamic global network of data, people and ideas. By using state-of-the-art analytics on big data, students at Zayed University will be best prepared to help manage our national wealth and resources. These labs will provide a hub of activity for finance courses, stock trading simulation, and Chartered Financial Analyst® training.
Just as Etihad is preparing young pilots for the future, ZU will now be preparing its students to be the high flyers of finance. As Suad Mohammad, a Finance Major, student in her 4th year of study put it, “as a finance student and having the privileged opportunity to use the Bloomberg Lab is very beneficial toward my studies and my career in the future, by having the extra knowledge of using and understanding to use the Bloomberg Terminal, that is only used by professionals. Having the hands-on experience will give me an advantage when I apply for a job and be at a more advanced level than my peers.”
