Mariam Al Ameri struck gold as the UAE topped the table with nine medals on the opening day of the 5th Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championships in Abu Dhabi on Sept 13, 2021 which reflects the tremendous development of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu in recent years.  Al Ameri overcame Areewan Chansri of Thailand in the women’s 70-plus kilogram final.   More than 400 players from 19 countries participated in the Championship for men and women at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City.  Mariam is in the last semester of coursework at ZU majoring in Finance and accomplished this while taking 18 hours this term.  The fifth edition of the Asian Championship is an essential station in the journey to qualify for the World Games hosted by the United States of America in July 2022.
