Bio

Nicolina Kamenou is a Professor of International Human Resource Management (HRM) and has been employed at the College of Business at Zayed University, Dubai campus since August 2016. She is the Chair of the Management Department within the College.

Prior to her employment at Zayed University, she was employed as a Professor in HRM at Heriot-Watt University in the Edinburgh campus in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2016. In 2014 she was seconded to Heriot-Watt’s Dubai campus as the Director of Research and the Director of the PhD program in the School of Management and Languages (January 2014 to August 2016). Nicolina was an affiliated faculty member with HEC Paris Business School in Doha, Qatar between 2014 and 2017. She was also employed in the Scottish Government as a Senior Research officer in the Social Justice department (as a secondment from Heriot-Watt University) in 2005. Before her time in Scotland, she was a lecturer and tutor at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds, in the UK.

Nicolina’s research interests lie in the areas of International Human Resource Management, Gender and Diversity Management, Cross-Cultural Management, Human Rights, Career Management and Organisational Sociology. She is currently looking at cross-cultural issues surrounding HR policies and practices and conducting research on work-life balance and gender in the Middle-eastern context. She has published widely in highly-rated, peer-reviewed academic journals, including the British Journal of Management (ABS 4), Work, Employment and Society (ABS 4), Sociology (ABS 4) and the International Journal of Human Resource Management (ABS 3). Nicolina has been awarded a number of external and competitive grants as Principal Investigator or Co-investigator. This included grants from the British Council in collaboration with the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), the UK Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission.  More recently, Nicolina was part of a Zayed University commissioned project with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization.

Nicolina is an Academic Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in the UK and a reviewer for a number of journals (British Journal of Management; Human Resource Management journal; Employee Relations Journal; Gender, Work and Organizational journal, etc.) as well as an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) grants reviewer. She has been an external examiner for a number of PhD theses in the UK.

She has been teaching a number of courses at the College, including International Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Development and Organisation Development & Change Management.
