Bio
Dr. Arin received his PhD from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, U.S.A in August 2003. Then he worked in Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand for 7 years.
Dr. Arin's area of specialization is macroeconomics, and he has wide research interests in the areas of monetary and fiscal policy, open economy macroeconomics and public economics. He is especially interested in ways governments may improve socio-economic outcomes. He has published extensively on topics like how different fiscal instruments influence major macroeconomic variables, what governments should be aware of while privatizing public firms, the causes and economic consequences of terrorism, and why social cohesion matters for economic performance. Currently, he is using microeconomic data to investigate the transmission channels for large macroeconomic shocks, like fiscal policy innovations and the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, he also does research on how "irrational behavior" at the individual level, like loss-aversion, implicit biases, and different misperceptions affect our economic decision-making processes and whether such behavior have any macroeconomic consequences.
He has taught courses in macroeconomic principles, microeconomic principles, monetary economics, econometrics and public economics. He has won numerous teaching and research awards. Dr Arin was a visiting professor in TU Dresden (Germany), RWTH Aachen (Germany), University of Ulm (Germany), Helmut - Schmidt University (Germany), KOF Institute (Switzerland), Goethe University of Frankfurt (Germany), University College Dublin (Ireland), Paris School of Economics (France), Montpellier Business School (France), UA Barcelona (Spain), University of Granada (Spain) and NHH Bergen (Norway). He is also a Higher Education Fellow with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the U.K.
He has published over 30 articles in journals like Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Management, Public Choice, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Organizational Research Methods, Economics Letters, Journal of Macroeconomics, Southern Economic Journal, Energy Economics, and World Development.
He is currently a Research Associate at the Centre of Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA), Australian National University, Canberra, Australia and associate editor of Springer Nature: Business & Economics.
