Bio

Amr holds the position of Full Professor in Accounting within the College of Business at Zayed University (UAE). He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Accountancy from the University of Aberdeen Business School in 2009. Prior to joining Zayed University, Amr held academic positions at various esteemed institutions including the universities of Prince Sultan (Saudi Arabia), Anglia Ruskin University (UK), Middlesex (UK), Coventry (UK), Aberdeen (UK), and Cairo (Egypt). Amr’s extensive administrative experience includes serving as Acting Associate Dean of the College of Business at Zayed University (UAE) from December 2020 to July 2021, Chair of the Accounting Department at Zayed University (UAE) from August 2018 to February 2020, and Deputy Head of Department for Business Development and Research at Anglia Ruskin University (UK) from August 2013 to July 2015.

Teaching Areas

Amr is recognized as a Fellow of Advance HE (formerly known as Higher Education Academy, UK), highlighting his commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Amr is a highly experienced university educator with over 26 years of diverse international teaching experience across six institutions. He has successfully led and instructed a comprehensive array of financial and managerial accounting courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional levels. Since commencing PhD supervision in 2010, Amr has overseen the successful completion of five of his students' doctoral studies, culminating in their respective awards, in the UK (Middlesex University and Anglia Ruskin University) and Egypt (German University in Cairo).

Research and Professional Activities

Research:

Amr boasts an internationally acclaimed research portfolio, coupled with a track record of securing numerous internal and external research grants. His scholarly contributions have been published in esteemed journals such as Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Journal of Business Ethics, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, European Accounting Review, and The International Journal of Accounting, among others. His research endeavors encompass a multidisciplinary approach, drawing from auditing, information technology, education, and business ethics. Primarily, Amr's work critically examines two key areas: firstly, the evolving impact of information technology on the accounting profession and education; and secondly, the ethical guidance provided by Islamic principles for individuals and businesses alike. Amr's scholarly contributions have been recognized with outstanding paper prizes for three of his research papers. Two of these accolades were bestowed by the American Accounting Association, while the third was awarded by the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence.

Professional Activities:

Externally, Amr holds the role of Associate Editor at Accounting Education, an ABDC A-ranked journal published by Taylor and Francis. Additionally, he contributes his expertise as a promotion/PhD external examiner at several universities across Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and England. Amr also serves as a reviewer for prestigious journals including the Journal of Business Ethics, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, and International Journal of Auditing.
