Bio

Winifred “Winnie” D. Scott, PhD, CPA, joined Zayed University in Fall 2010 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor of accounting in Spring 2013 in the College of Business.  The College of Business has AACSB accreditation.  She received a Ph.D. in Accounting from Florida State University, a MBA degree from California State University San Bernardino, and a B.S. in Accounting from California State University Dominguez Hills. She has received multiple scholarship awards in pursuit of her MBA and Ph.D. degrees.  She has served on the Board of Directors Audit Committee of a not-for-profit organization in Arizona.  Prior to obtaining her Ph.D., Winfred Scott has worked several years as a corporate accountant, auditor for a public accounting firm, and as a business owner.

Professor Scott teaches undergraduate Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Auditing at Zayed University.  At the University of Delaware and at Arizona State University she has taught Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Financial Report Analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  She has been awarded two Zayed University-wide Research Grants for Aed25,350 and Aed35,880 in 2012 and 2011, respectively.  Her research interests include auditor independence, audit fees, corporate governance, transparency and disclosures.  She has a paper forthcoming in the Accounting and the Public Interest Journal.  She has published in Managerial Auditing Journal,  International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation,  Journal of Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business,  Journal of Accounting, Ethics, & Public Policy,  Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal,  Agribusiness: An International Journal,  Research in Accounting Regulation,  and  Review of Business Information Systems.  Her paper “Forced Auditor Change, Industry Specialization and Audit Fees” was chosen as a Highly Commended Paper winner as it “is one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2013 by the Managerial Auditing Journal’s Editorial Team”.

Professor Scott currently serves on the College Research Committee and University Learning Assessment Committee, and she has served on the University Research Committee and as Managerial Accounting Course Coordinator at Zayed University.  Professor Scott is a member of several professional organizations including the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  She has reviewed papers for theManagerial Auditing Journal, American Accounting Association Annual and Sectional Conferences, and the Conference on Emerging Issues in Business and Technology.  She has also been a guess speaker at various engagements including the Florida Education Fund McKnight Summer Research & Writing Institute (2013),  Women with Purpose Global Summit – Education Panel (2013), Accounting Career Awareness Program for High School Students (2009), and KPMG Foundation Ph.D. Project Conference    500 Prospective Ph.D. Students” (2000).
