Bio

Tina Sleiman is an Associate Professor of graphic design and Assistant Chair of design at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. She is a certified green designer, is recognized as Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy in the UK, and is a mother of three children.

An educator and researcher since 2007, Tina spoke at conferences in Canada, India, Lebanon, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the UAE on design responsibility, design education, and visual culture, and wrote articles published in Wiley's International Journal of Art and Design Education and John Hopkins University Press’ Bookbird Journal of International Children's Literature. She taught and developed numerous design courses; co-curated a typographic show featuring 80 students; worked at Arizona State University as a graphic designer and faculty associate; and held designer and team leader positions at AGA-ADK and DW Green creative studios.

Over the past few years, she has been actively researching about responsible production and consumption: embedded aspects of sustainable design in her classes, presented research outcomes at the third UAE Public Policy Forum and the 2019 Dubai Design Week, delivered community talks and workshops including an interview with Annahar Arabia, and served on the scientific committee for the 12th World Environmental Education Congress. Tina is passionate about preserving nature and is constantly looking for ways to live and promote the zero-waste lifestyle. Together with Eric Benson and Dr Fatme Al Anouti, the team was awarded a Social Innovation Grant from the Institute of Social and Economic Research to start Fresh Press Emirates (based on the model of Fresh Press Paper which has been handmaking paper out of agricultural waste since 2012 at the University of Illinois).
