Bio

Salama Nasib is an academic instructor/ researcher of Visual Arts at Zayed University, UAE. She has acquired an MA in Print from the Royal College of Art in London, UK. Prior to joining Zayed University, Nasib worked as a Studio/ Membership Coordinator at Tashkeel in Dubai, where she stayed abreast of the latest art trends while managing seven studios, organizing artistic and collaborative workshops, and co-curating upcoming exhibitions. Nasib has exhibited at local and international venues, including Meem Gallery and Emirates Palace, as well as at The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in Michigan, and at the Berlin Art Week 2017 in Berlin. She has been part of the inaugural batch of the Salama Emerging Artist fellowship, provided by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation and in collaboration with Rhode Island School of Design in 2013. In addition, Nasib has been the guest artist of Past Forward: Exhibitions from the UAE, hosted in East Lansing (Michigan) in USA, as the fifth destination of the touring exhibition. Recently embarked on a six weeks residency at Dundee Contemporary Arts in Scotland, in collaboration with Tashkeel and the British Council. Nasib has collaborated with major organizations such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and sharjah Art Foundation, while continuing to pursue her goal of establishing a diverse print community in the UAE; through teaching and through introducing print to her clients. Nasib is currently represented by Aisha Alabbar Gallery in Dubai, UAE. Nasib’s teaching experience includes: Art Foundation, Printmaking level 1 & 2, Book Structure, and Professional practice for Visual Art. Her teaching philosophy tackles not only the technical and the conceptual artistic approach, but also tackles introducing students to MENA-based art and history, to collaborative interactions with Emirati and MENA artists, and to embracing technology with art. Nasib’s research direction covers Printmaking in the MENA region, Sound Design, and Memory.
