Bio

Katharina is looking back on 15 years of teaching and research experience in universities in Germany, Italy, Belgium and the United States. In 2000 she started her academic career at the Chair of Computer Science in Architecture at the Bauhaus University Weimar, where she taught architecture studio and related theory classes in undergraduate and graduate programs. Katharina has been in charge of several international teaching endeavors in collaboration with Roma Tre, Rome, Italy and the Hogeschool voor Wetenschap & Kunst, Brussels, Belgium. In Fall 2004 she was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center – Virginia Polytechnic and State University, Alexandria, VA, USA. Since 2013 she works as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University, Dubai.

Katharina was a member of EU funded international research consortia investigating the potential and future development of Computer Aided Architectural Design (Accolade, Avocad). She was also instrumental in aiding the preparation of a European Joint Masters program (Meta-U) on that matter.

Katharina’s research focuses on the potential and the limitations of computer based exchange of experiential knowledge in architecture. She wrote her Doctorate on Case-Based Reasoning and its application to architectural design. Between 2000 and 2006 she orchestrated third party verification procedures at the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 524 „Materials and Structures in Revitalization of Buildings“, at the Bauhaus-University Weimar.

Her work has been published at a multitude of international conferences as well as in related reviewed journals. She is also author of a book with the title: Augmenting Designers' Memory. Case-Based Reasoning in der Architektur published with Logos Verlag, Berlin.
