Bio

I am an Abu Dhabi-based artist and educator. I was born in Poland, obtained my MFA in 2007 at Radom University, and am currently a PhD candidate at my Alma Mater. I have been living in the UAE since 2013. In my art practice, I am interested in the spiritual aspect of how we perceive ourselves and the world around us, and the connections that we create, whether they be with places, things, or each other. My process starts with prolonged observations of a singular subject, aimed at capturing the repetition of changes and constants. Most of my visual projects oscillate around multiple renderings of the same imaginary, exploring it in methodical ways. I am fascinated by layers of colors and textures, interlocking with each other in a delicate dance of transparency and opacity. It acts as a prism, where the representational aspect of the work has been scrapped away, allowing the emotional aspect, based at the core of the image, to take centre stage. In a sense, my art explores the cyclical aspect of carving out and revisiting part of everyday life and exploring the raw emotions connected to them

Since starting at Zayed University I have been teaching a diverse range of courses. I co-teach Senior Seminar, where senior students emerge themselves in thoughtful and rigorous research and technique exploration, based on the contemporary art scene. Mixed Media is a course where my students develop various techniques in different media, including laser cutting, with a technical approach that I bring to them from my artistic practice. In Drawing 2 we explore the world of drawing techniques, approaches and outcomes, basing them on a solid fundament of artist research. The course I have been teaching for the longest is Basic Design, where I introduce students to the world of digital manipulation in Adobe programs. I also teach Art Foundation, Drawing 1, Painting 1 and Book Structures.
