Amira ElHakeh
Bio
Amira el Hakeh studied Architecture and Urban Planning in Egypt and Germany. She holds a PhD in Architectural Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt), Hessen, Germany. She is an RIBA Part I and II qualified architect with more than 15 years of experience in teaching and research. Her research focuses on urban heritage management, heritage tourism and megaprojects in the middle east. Amira is a passionate architect and urban heritage advocate with a deep commitment to preserving and revitalizing architectural and urban heritage to preserve the cultural fabric of the city. With a background in both architecture and urban studies, she specializes in integrating modern design into the rich history of the urban space. Her research focuses on historic city centers and the interplay between space and social dimension. Recent research focuses on urban infrastructure within the MENA region and the effect of transportation development on the city fabric. She has contributed in numerous scholarly publications including Q1 journals and urban heritage symposiums. Previous positions she held include lecturer of Architecture at the Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design Department at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology. Research Fellow at the school of UrbanGrad TU Darmstadt. She is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor at Heriot Watt University, Dubai and Zayed University, Abu Dhabi. In addition to teaching and research Amira works as advisor for public and private organizations in the realm of urban development and housing policies.
