Bio

Adina Hempel is an architect, urban researcher and Associate Professor at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at the Zayed University in Dubai, UAE. Her research investigates the relationship of interior spaces and urban context and the impact of cross-cultural influences in emerging urban centers, with a particular focus on the the Arabian Peninsula.

 Adina Hempel has conducted extensive research on the architectural and urban history of the UAE and is a member of the Technical Committee for Modern Heritage of the UAE. In 2019 she worked with the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth on a variety of UAE Architecture related projects, such as the research publication “In Search of Spaces of Coexistence: An architect’s journey”. Additionally, she served as Head of Research for GSM project on the Shindagha Museum phase 1 pavilions in Dubai in 2016 and for the curatorial team of the National Pavilion of the UAE at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in La Biennale di Venezia in 2014.

Her work contributed to various exhibitions and publications such as the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam, Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 and 2018.

Adina Hempel received a Dipl.-Ing. of Architecture (Master in Architecture) from the Technical University of Dresden, studied Urban Studies at Columbia University in New York and Digital Film Making at New York Film Academy in New York and is currently pursuing a PhD in Architecture the University of Stuttgart.
