Bio
Marco Sosa is an RIBA registered Architect, Associate Professor of Interior Design, and the Research Coordinator for the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, Zayed University, Abu Dhabi. Sosa holds a BA(Hons) in architecture, a postgraduate diploma and MA in Architecture and has over 10 years of experience in the UK industry. In 2012, Sosa published a book about the oldest functional mosque in the UAE, titled; "Al Bidiya Mosque, A visual Essay". In 2014, Marco was appointed part of the curatorial team as Head of Design, for the First National Pavilion for the UAE at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale, the exhibition, titled “Lest We Forget; Structures of Memory in the UAE”, chartered the impact of modernist architecture in the UAE. In 2022, Sosa exhibited his research as part of the United Arab Emirates: Living Landscape | Living Memory exhibition, a program at the 56th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Washington DC, 2022. Sosa has designed exhibitions, published various academic papers and presented at various conferences around the world about his architectural photography and Modern Architectural Heritage in the UAE, VR digital immersion and the continuous development of Design education in the UAE.
Marco recognizes the importance of merging art and design disciplines as vital ingredients forming the perfect formula for an excellent research based BFA in Visual Arts, Multimedia Design, Animation, Graphic and Interior Design.
Marco recognizes the importance of student participation with the local building industry, he has facilitated the coordination and integration to the studio of various successful competitions involving student and alumni successes. These include Capitala (2011), Mubadala Tennis trophy (2011-12), Porcelanosa (2015), TCA mosque competition (2015), Global Grad show (2018), The Christo and Jeanne Claude Award (2018), SABEEL EXPO 2020 (2019), Zayed Grand Mosque Furniture competition (2020), Vision Factory (2020).

Marco has published numerous academic papers, chapters and presented in international conferences. Sosa is currently researching the application of maker culture to the concept of Architecture of Rapid Change and Scarce Resources for providing efficiently designed and constructed structures in emergency areas and responding to social needs.
Marco’s research is heavily based on exploration of teaching design methodologies based on active learning using digital technology, immersive reality using point cloud models of heritage in the UAE and challenging the norm and adapting innovative pedagogies approaches in the region. Sosa has been awarded numerous research grants and awards including the Zayed University’s Provost’s Research Fellowship for 2020-2021.
