The Intercultural Project Italy â€“ two base points: Selarno and Rome

Ten students from CACE were selected to participate in The Intercultural Trip to Italy organized and accompanied by Dr. Benedetta Paravia between May 22nd and June 1st, 2016. The ItalArt program was composed of an interesting mix of cultural and educational modules; based on site visits, direct exploration and first hand observation and discussion with specialists in the field. Based in two locations; at the heart of Selarno and Rome city center, students were exposed to different historical and cultural sites; from ancient (Pompeii), the medieval (Vatican Church) to the contemporary (MAXXI museum and Maritime Terminal).
The trip activities were covered by Al Bayan media team featuring the student’s involvement in daily Internet posts, social media and newspaper articles. Assistant Professor Lina Ahmed who accompanied students on the trip commented “ the course exposed the students to places they otherwise would not have experienced. It broadened their perspectives, providing them with an insight into a rich intermix of Italian culture, heritage, history, science, art, architecture and design. The trip allowed students to bond and interact, creating an insightful atmosphere of learning, through observing and discussing”. The experience of participating in this well crafted intercultural trip to Italy will inevitably have a major positive impact on these students as they develop to be the future designers and artists based in the UAE.
