The CACE Friday Lecture Series is a new CACE Research Committee initiative for faculty to share their current research with their peers.

Dr Bacci’s presentation discusses the fragrant intangible cultural heritage of the U.A.E.

Perfume has been present in the Gulf continuously throughout its history, from antiquity all the way to the present. To this day, perfume remains at the heart of Emirati daily customs. Its importance as “intangible cultural patrimony” is increasingly recognized by museums showcasing the nation’s history (for example, in the Perfume House at Al Shindaga Museum, Dubai). This contribution considers five case-studies of museography of perfume in the U.A.E., to reflect on the curatorial choices and discuss the role of perfume as a central identity-defining element in the national cultural storytelling.

So please join us online on Friday 4th March at noon as we prepare for the weekend.

We hope to see you at our CACE Friday lunch time Lecture Series
