Bio
Wafa Zoghbor is an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. She is also an accredited professional international trainer in strategic planning. For ten years, she mentored graduate students in Applied Linguistics and TESOL at the University of Leicester in the UK. Additionally, she served as an external examiner for several graduate MA dissertations at the UAE University. Previously, Dr. Zoghbor held the position of Assistant Dean for Research and Outreach at the University College in ZU for five years. She taught at the Department of Languages in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Currently, she serves as the Advisor to the Provost for Special Initiatives, where she focuses on promoting professional growth and development for academics within the university. Dr. Zoghbor is the founder and current leader of the Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (ALLT) Association, with the support of academics from various UAE universities. Her research expertise in applied linguistics includes the phonology of English as a lingua franca (ELF), translanguaging, EMI in higher education, Arabic dialects, and sociolinguistics. She has published articles on these topics in reputable journals such as System, Intellectual Discourse, World Englishes, and Asian Englishes. Dr. Zoghbor also serves as a reviewer and editor for several refereed journals. Furthermore, she has co-edited several books and conference proceedings, with the most recent being "Linguistic Identity in the Gulf States" published by Routledge in 2022. Currently, Dr. Zoghbor is actively involved in multiple research projects focused on EMI in UAE higher education, as well as the phonology and morphology of the 'White Dialect'.
