ive Zayed University students recently attended and took an active part in the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Kentucky. Over a period of five days, Zayed University students presented their research papers to other students and academics from different parts of the world, who gathered in University of Kentucky to share their research experiences.
Following the conference, Zayed University students visited the UAE Embassy in Washington, D.C, where they met Dr. Suaad Zayed Al Oraimi, a Cultural Attaché at the Embassy, who shared her insights on how to prepare for a graduate study in the US, and the challenges that students could face during their study abroad.
Zayed University students also visited George Washington University, and a number of museums in Washington DC, as part of the cultural aspect of their trip.
Two Zayed University Faculty members accompanied the group of students on their trip; Fatme Al Anouti, Assistant Professor at the College of Sustainability and Social Humanities and Shurooq Alhashimi, Graduate Development Program Associate, who emphasized the importance of such programs to the personal and academic growth of undergraduate students.
“We want to raise awareness amongst our students about the importance of research. We want them to be engaged in international conferences and more exposed to various research topics, for them to become active researchers in any field of their choice”, says Shurooq Alhashimi.
The five students were enrolled in the Undergraduate Research Students Program that is designed and sponsored by the Research Department at Zayed University. They spent a year attending sessions on conducting research, and received assistance that enabled them to conduct their own research during their enrollment in the Program.
A ceremony for their graduation from the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program took place at Zayed University on May 18, 2014, where Zayed University provost, Prof. Abdalla AlAmiri delivered their certificates and praised their dedication and hard work.
