References

DO NOT list references on your CV.

Create a sheet with your CV heading and References beneath that – see sample on the next page.

  • List at least two (usually no more than four) references.
  • Get permission from those you want to use as a reference. If possible, use an employer, i.e., the supervisor on your internship, etc.  They can speak about you as an employee.
  • List the name of each reference along with their contact information.
  • When you go for your interview, be ready to give this to the interviewer as you are leaving.
  • You will often be asked to list references on your application (especially online applications), so be prepared prior to applying for a job.

You do not need to say: References available upon request – employers know this!
