Director's Message

ZUHello! My name is Fatma AlQassimi and I am the director of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at Zayed University in the UAE.

As an Emirati national, I am inspired by the UAE leaders to help build a society that promotes the rights of all people, especially People of Determination, a term designated by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, to refer to people with physical disabilities and learning difficulties. My aim is to support Students of Determination at Zayed University to have equal educational opportunities and achieve their full potential in order to contribute to the advancement of UAE society.

My vision for the future is to foster the use of current innovations, through assistive technology and utilize it to support Students of Determination in their academic studies at Zayed University.

Through our daily work and interaction with Students of Determination, we have found that the assistive technology and apps empower students to become independent learners. Independence is a crucial foundation for their academic success and leads to autonomy in their working lives.

I am pleased to say that in 2016 we started offering support services to students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia and ADHD. All SAS staff are fully qualified and provide Zayed University Students of Determination with the necessary accommodation according to their needs, following international best practice.

Our dedicated specialists conduct training sessions that target specific skills to enable Students of Determination to overcome the challenges they face in their academic and social lives.

One of my major interests is to connect with other educational institutions in the UAE and beyond, to foster links and raise awareness of different types of physical disabilities and learning difficulties. This promotes knowledge and encourages full inclusion to invest in support services and technology enabling Students of Determination to fulfill their highest academic aspirations.

Finally, I would like to welcome all Students of Determination to avail of the services offered by SAS, and experience a truly inclusive environment.
