Bio

Dr. Basem is designer, researcher, and educator. His  design and research  work focuses on rethinking  prefabricated housing design and production through the application of cutting edge technologies, starting from sales to occupancy.  He has completed his Doctoral degree at McGill University School of Architecture, where he developed a digital platform for mass customization of housing systems.  He received multiple awards to implement his design and research efforts within leading housing companies in Quebec province, Canada. He also collaborated with housing authorities in the UAE.   With regard to teaching, Basem has taught at McGill, and  ADU prior to  joining ZU. He has won multiple awards with his students, most recently the Christo Jeanne Claude award in 2018, and Cityscape 2019. In addition to teaching, Basem has extensive experience in working  architectural practices in Egypt, Canada, and UAE on diverse range of residential, and commercial projects. He participated in multiple competitions, and build projects in Egypt, and Canada.
