Bio
Asma Belhamar is Emirati visual artist. She graduated with MFA degree in textile design at Rhode Island School of Design, USA in June 2017. She is a Zayed University alumnae, graduating with a BA majoring in visual arts from the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University in 2012. She worked as a graphic designer in the marketing & publication department at Zayed University, Dubai before joining the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF).
Her work explores the phenomena of 'mega structure' in the UAE, and the confrontation of the visual memory of the land. Her practice is design based with a specific interest in surface and pattern design. Where she makes fabric and paper wall installations, and experiments her printing and projecting techniques to construct three-dimensional structures.
Asma has exhibited her work in the UAE since 2009. She exhibited her most recent work at 1stdibs gallery, New York and at Art: Process & Practice SEAF exhibition at Warehouse 421, Abu Dhabi. She was awarded the Shaikha Manal Young Artist Award in the Fine Arts category in 2011.
