Read General Background Information

Reading a broad summary on a subject enables you to get an overview of the topic. A summary can help you see how your idea relates to broader, narrower and related issues.

Exercise 1.3 - Use an Encyclopedia

Read a general encyclopedia article on the top two or three topics you are considering. You can do this by:

  • Going to the library and using the World Book Encyclopedia, or another encyclopedia
    • see it on the shelf under the call number Reference AE 5.W55
  • Using ZU's online subscription to the Encyclopedia Britannica
  • Using other online encyclopedias from the ZU Library Web site
