●● Iftar Night ●●

By Khulood Janahi

At the beginning of this semester we had the privilege of starting the school year during the holy month of Ramadan. The student council organized the annual Iftar Night to celebrate this month with ZU members and their families. After breaking their fast and praying Maghreb, students and faculty were able to enjoy a variety of activities. There was a shopping area that displayed an array of items ranging from homemade cupcakes to custom made T-shirts. In the children's area, the little visitors were able to enjoy different activities and games. Also, we listened to some Islamic music performed by the Mawwal Band. Before the night ended, we gathered for Taraweeh prayer, a special prayer in Ramadan. The Iftar Night is always a special night that gives us a chance to share some of our religious and cultural practices with others. The proceeds from the Iftar Night went to sponsoring 4 Orphans which Zayed University started last year.

The event started with different speeches given by the provost and the student council president welcoming the new students. The students were divided into groups and taken to classes where they taught the basic information about the university. The big sisters took the new students in a tour in the university and answer their questions about their concerns. A free lunch was provided to students and their families and a notebook designed by student council was distributed as a gift to start the new academic year.
