The Publications Department crafts distinctive communications to promote Zayed University to the external community. We do this by producing attractive and informative print, Web, video and multimedia materials. A few examples of our print publications include the ZU Catalog, college brochures, and faculty and student recruitment materials. We also manage and update the award-winning ZU Internet site, produce promotional videos and DVDs, and provide creative and logistical support for special events such as the Women as Global Leaders conference, the annual graduation, Convocation, and the Capstone festival.

If we can help you with a project, just let us know.

Project Planning

Help Us Help You!

We are committed to providing you with the highest possible level of service. In order for us to deliver you a top-notch, trouble-free publication, here are some important guidelines to follow.

Think ahead
Begin your planning early and provide ample lead time for all phases of the project. From start to completion allow roughly this much time, provided that the final text is provided at the agreed time:

12 weeks—Conference support (invitations, programs, display art, etc.), academic journal

6 weeks—booklet, newsletter, extensive Web site or DVD, video

3 weeks—basic Web site or DVD, 3-fold flyer,

2 weeks—newspaper ad, 1-page flyer, banner, poster

A combination of materials requires more time, as does any publication which includes Arabic.

The starting point
All publications orders must originate with the college dean, or head of the appropriate department or unit requesting the publication. That person can designate a contact responsible for all further communications during the publication process.

The contact point
One person from your department/unit should serve as the final authority on text, artwork, and deadlines in dealings with the Publications Department. This person must approve all jobs for us before they go to print or go online.

One handover of final text content
Wait until your text is absolutely final before handing it over to us for copyediting. Feeding us content bit-by-bit as you complete it is not helpful, and continued revision from your side after the handover creates confusion and will delay your project.

Priority of Production

The Publications Department gives priority to print publications in the following order:

  1. University-wide publications central to the instructional mission (e.g. catalog, student handbook)
  2. Special publications/projects for senior administration
  3. University-wide publications not central to the instructional mission (e.g. graduation materials, prospectus)
  4. Publications for colleges or departments (e.g. recruitment brochures)
  5. Other publications

We give special priority to projects that are designed for an external audience, and that promote the strategic objectives of the university.

If it is not possible for us to schedule your project into your required time frame, we will provide you with a recommendation for an alternative vendor outside the University.

Student Projects

Artwork, design and editing assistance of printed materials for student clubs, classes, etc., are not the responsibility of the Department of Publications. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis for materials and projects designed for an external audience. In general, students should do the design work themselves, and we will assist in the printing process.

The Process

Contact a member of the department to discuss your project. We will set up a meeting to discuss project details and develop a plan from there. For smaller projects, we may call or e-mail instead.
