Zayed University does not mail grades to undergraduate
students. Student grades are posted on the Zayed University
Web site which students and their families may access
using the student ID and PIN. The university encourages
students and parents to discuss all aspects of the student's
academic progress including grade reports.
I'm concerned that my daughter is having trouble with
her course load. What do you suggest she does to get
on better footing?
First of all she should know that
she's not alone--many students find the transition
to college challenging. Encourage your daughter to
see her Advisor. The
Academic Advising Center helps students with their transition
from high school to university, by introducing them to
academic policies and procedures, monitoring students'
progress at regular intervals, and intervening as a necessary.
In addition, the advisor assists students in identifying
and developing strategies and personal skills for academic
success, encouraging them to be responsible members of
the academic community.
Will I be notified if my student is put on academic probation,
or subject to academic dismissal?
Information about grades and academic standing is sent
directly to students and their parents. You can, of course,
ask your daughter to keep you informed about her academic
performance, and you can ask the Student Affairs and
Cultural Counselor to help you get further information
about her records.
How do I apply for financial aid?
The first step is to submit a Financial
Aid Form, available from the Student Affairs Department
or from the Student Affairs and Cultural Counselor.
In a few weeks, Zayed
University will let you know the results by mail.
Do you offer career support services?
Our Career Services Department
disseminates job and internship announcements to
students, maintains an alumni career network, and
assists students in developing job search skills. They
also offer seminars in resume preparation, job searches,
and interview techniques.
What kind of security does Zayed University offer?
ZU Campus Security offers services such as lost and found,
lockout assistance, identification cards, and 24-hour
security patrol of campus.
Does my daughter need to buy a laptop computer?
Yes, each student is required to
purchase a laptop because a student's electronic

laptop computer. The actual
cost may vary from year to year.
How can I stay involved as a parent of a university student
?
The Student Affairs and Cultural Counselor invites you
to become an active participant in Zayed University community
through special events such as Parents Day and National
day. The Student Affairs and Cultural Counselor will
also keep you informed about ZU campus and student life
through workshops, special events, the Parents' Newsletter,
and this web site.
How do I apply for financial aid?
The first step is to get a Financial Aid form from Students
Affairs department or from the Student Affairs and Cultural
Counselor. Complete it and return it and copies of the
other information the form requires. In a few weeks,
the Zayed University Finance committee will let you know
the results by mail.
What kind of financial aid will I receive if my daughter
is eligible for aid?
Allowances include a transportation allowance, food allowance
and laptop purchase. It depends on each situation.
Does ZU provide transportation to and from the campus?
Zayed University does not provide transportation but we
do provide students with addresses of transportation
services in the city during New Students Orientation.
Is a married student treated differently from unmarried
students?
A married student, with the permission of her guardian,
may get a green card. This card allows the student to
leave campus during her break time.
How long does it take a student to get her bachelor degree?
If a student is able to enter the
baccalaureate program directly, she may be able to
complete her degree program in as little as four
years. Students who need to
improve their English before entering the baccalaureate
program will be enrolled in the Readiness Program. The
Readiness Program may add anywhere from ten weeks to
two years on to the degree program.
What is Readiness?
It is the English proficiency program in ZU. It prepares
the students for the demands of the academic environment
by teaching them English and other academic skills.
When do you start marking the student as absent?
If the student does not show up in the first 10 minutes
of class she is considered absent. If the student exceeds
15% absences she fails the course. You can see your daughter's
attendance records on the Parents Access Program.
