Start-Up Grants for New Faculty

Start-Up Research Grants are designed to assist new faculty, within their first year of contract with ZU, to continue previous research or to seed new research.

Start-Up Grants aim to:
1.    assist new faculty to continue ongoing research projects; or
2.    seed new faculty directed research, which would normally be eligible for annual Research Incentive Fund (RIF) grant funding.

Start-Up Grant recipients are expected to apply for a RIF Grant in the next award cycle.

Application

Eligible faculty may apply for a Start-Up Grant by submitting the Research Project Description to their Director or academic Dean.   Allocation of Start-Up Grant funding is at the discretion of the Director or Dean.

The Office of Research will allocate funding for Start-Up Grants to the ABP Director and College Deans in the Fall semester of each year.

Expenditure and Accountability

On award of a Start-Up Grant, the Director or College Dean notifies the Office of Research and forwards a copy of the completed Research Project Description.

A cost-code specific to the research project is created and the faculty member notified.  All expenditure against this cost-code should then be forwarded through the Office of Research for verification.

Start-Up Grants will be closed on the submission date of the next RIF proposal call and may not be extended.

Start-up grant recipients are required to submit a Final Report
