General questions about university:

1. Why is being accredited important to me?

Being accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, means  our University courses are recognized internationally and are highly regarded.

This means that your degree is recognized not only in the UAE, but also internationally and therefore you can get transfer credit if you study abroad.

You can enroll every semester  FALL (August/September) or SPRING (January/February). Please check our website for Application deadlines.

ZU is an English medium university but if you are a non Arabic speaker you are required to take an Arabic for foreigners course.

4. Is it true that Zayed University (ZU) has male and female students?

Yes,  ZU has both Male and Female students. In Abu Dhabi, male and female are on separate campuses.  In Dubai, male and female are on the same campus, but classes are scheduled at different times of the day.

You will be taught by either Male or Female faculty.

6. How do I get to know about the university?

In the week prior to the start of classes, all new students attend a comprehensive introduction and orientation to our university.

ZU does not provide transportation.Transportation is arranged by yourself and we can provide information about companies to contact.

As a general rule students must buy their laptop through ZU, because our network, software and support are specially configured for specific models of laptops.

1. How do I apply for an undergraduate program?

1. Nationals applying to ZU immediately after completing high school must apply through the NAPO website at www.napo.ae 

2. Students transferring from HCT / UAEU should apply through the NAPO website at www.napo.ae 

3. Students transferring from a private institution should apply directly to Zayed University via the Admissions’ Office.

4. Students applying for Bachelors after Diploma/Higher Diploma should apply directly to Zayed University via the Admissions’ Office.

5. International students (non-nationals) should apply to ZU via the Admissions’ Office. International Student  application can be found on the ZU website at here.

2. I got my high school certificate several years ago. Can I join ZU?

Yes, you can. Please fill out the application form (link to matured student application) and email it with all supporting documents that are listed in the form to ZU_Admissions@zu.ac.ae

3. I am currently a student at HCT/UAEU, can I transfer to ZU?

You are eligible to transfer to ZU if  you have:

• Completed a language “Foundation” Program

• Good academic standing (GPA of 2.0)

• IELTS of 5.0 + or an TOEFL iBT of 61+ (test date must be less than 2 years old)

Please note NO transfer students can be admitted to the Academic Bridge Program, the Language foundation program of ZU.

4. I graduated from HCT/ UAE. Can I continue my studies at ZU?

Yes, you can continue your studies at ZU for a Bachelors’ Degree. If admitted, students will be required to complete at least 60 credits and 2 years at ZU to earn their degree. Applications should be made directly to ZU

5. I am studying at a private university and would like to transfer to ZU?

Yes, you can if you are in good academic standing at the private university (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater).

6. Can I transfer credits from another institution?

Yes, only if you are in good academic standing and you must submit the following documentation to our Admissions’ office at the time of applying:

1. Official transcript from the other university

2. Grading system and its explanation

3. Detailed course outlines, including course descriptions for all subjects, completed at the other university.

7. If I want to apply for ZU and my mother is national but my father is not, will I be accepted as a national student?

Yes, you can apply for admission. However, approval is subject to acceptance by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

8. I have a UAE passport but not a National ID, can I apply to ZU as a national student?

If you can provide NAPO with a National ID prior to August of the year you want to attend, you would be considered for the government funded education by NAPO.  Students without a National ID are still welcome to apply as an

international student, but you will be charged tuition fees.

9. If I select HCT or UAEU as my first choice in the NAPO application, can I later change my mind?

Yes, you can but please refer to the guidelines at the NAPO website at www.napo.ae

10. When will I be informed if I am accepted at ZU?

At the end of July, the names of the government-funded students approved to join ZU will be published in the local Arabic newspapers by  NAPO. Zayed University will send you a “welcome package” with important information and

dates regarding student orientation.

All other non government funded students will be contacted individually by our Admissions’ Office.

11. If I do not have an IELTS of 5.0, where in the ABP will I be placed?

You will be placed according to your CEPA English score or if you are NOT eligible for CEPA then you are required to do the ZU Placement Test.

12. If I am placed in the ABP but then get the IELTS before I start, will I still have to join the ABP?

If you bring in an IELTS certificate and meet our Language Entry requirements before the end of Add/Drop week (the first week of the semester), you will be admitted directly to the undergraduate General Education program.

1. I want to change my section. What do I do?

You can only change your section during the Add/Drop week (the first week of semester) after speaking to your advisor.

2. I want to under enroll. What do I do?

You need to meet a counselor in the Office of Student Life and explain why you want to under enroll and the counselor will decide and guide you.

3. I want to appeal my dismissal. What do I do?

If you need to appeal your dismissal, you have to go to Office of Student life with a written appeal letter on why you shouldn’t be dismissed.

4. What are my options if my dismissal appeal is not successful?

If you are not successful, then you can come back as a Fresh Start student after one semester.

Financial Aid for UAE nationals:

1. How can I get Financial Aid?

If you are a UAE National, you may visit the Office of Student Support to apply for financial aid.

2. What does Financial Aid cover?

Financial aid covers the cost of a laptop, food, transportation, and other requirements by you. (Textbooks are supplied free of cost to all students)

3. What documents are needed to apply for Financial Aid?

• A completed financial aid form.

• Copy of your whole family National Identity /the  birth certificate for all family members

• Copy of your Passport / birth certificate.

• Copy of documentation, indicating that an applicant has family members who are unemployed.

• Total salary certificate of your guardian or sponsor (the certificate is not to exceed three months from the date of issuance).

• Your guardian’s /sponsor’s bank statement for 3 months till date.

• In case of death of your father, please provide death and heritage certificate.

The university has the right to ask you for any additional documents or to exempt from some of the above mentioned documents.

You may submit (via email, fax or in person) completed application form along with the following documents:

• Application fee of AED 250/- (Cheque or bank draft made payable to Zayed University)

• Copy of official transcripts, academic records, diplomas, national examination results, certificates or degrees received from all secondary, post-secondary and university.

• Copy of IELTS / iBT TOEFL (test date must be less than 2 years old)

• Your personal Statement in the prescribed format.

• 2 letters of recommendation in the prescribed format.

• 2 recent passport-sized photographs.

• Copy of your passport and Residence Visa (if resident in the UAE).
