H.H. Ruler of Um AlQuwain supports ZU students Humanitarian and Social Programs

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain showed his support to the ZU Student Financial Aid Fund by the provision of financial support, grant of bursary and incentives awards, in cash and in kind, to the ZU distinguished students.

His Highness contribution comes in line with the supporting of the development process of education and commitment to help students complete their studies and provide them with the facilities necessary to achieve this goal.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of Zayed University, praised the support of H. Highness noting that it reflects the interest and concern of our wise leadership in education as the cornerstone in the preparation of future generations. The Fund was established in 2000 pursuant to a decision of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of Zayed University, to meet the needs of students and provide them with the funds they require for the pursuit of their academic education.  

The Fund's revenues, the Vice-President clarified, are based on the amounts allocated by the university for this purpose, and are consistent with the objectives and mission of its establishment, pointing out to the  number of institutions which contribute to the Fund's support, including the Al Maktoum Foundation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation, Red Crescent and other organizations and banks, in addition to the contributions of a number of senior businessmen and private institutions.

Safia Saeed AlRaqbani, ZU Chief Development Officer, praised the contribution of His Highness the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain for the university Financial Aid Fund programs, which provides many of the humanitarian and social services for students, noting that 1496 students benefited from the Fund's programs since its establishment, of whom 351 this year in both ZU campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, explaining that part of the funds' contributions are disbursed on monthly basis as financial aid to some students and are used as well to cover the costs of distribution of laptops used by students in their academic studies, noting that 839 students received these devices, in addition to monthly transportation, health care and provision of rewards, cash and in-kind prizes, not to mention some other services required for students. 

AlRaqbani added that the Board of Directors of the Fund is looking into the needs of students and draws its policies in accordance with its objectives and purpose, set general policies, internal regulations, consider eligibility cases and proposed amounts to be granted to entitled students and recommend acceptance of donations, gifts and endorsed wills in compliance with the Fund's objectives.
