Graduate Merit Scholarships

Zayed University provides graduate merit scholarships to attract highly qualified students for study leading to a master’s degree. These scholarships are awarded to graduate students on the basis of academic merit as determined from academic performance in senior baccalaureate courses. All entering graduate students are considered for this award. Graduate merit scholarship support is valued at up to 20% of program tuition.

To be eligible to receive this award, students

  • must receive an offer of full admission to a Zayed University master’s degree program; students with conditional or provisional admission are not eligible;
  • must submit a complete admission application prior to the published application deadline; and
  • may not hold other major awards totaling ≥ AED 25,000 (excluding Zayed University GTA, Zayed University GRA or Zayed University Alumni Graduate Scholarship).

Graduate merit scholarships

  • cannot be deferred

The Office of Graduate Studies computes a senior course grade point average (GPA) based on a standard 4.0 scale and standard Zayed University letter grade to quality point conversions by considering grades of selected senior courses recorded in the student’s official baccalaureate transcript. Post baccalaureate and non-academic grades are not considered.

  • Conversions from other systems to Zayed University letter grades are guided by the World Education Services data.
  • The level of award is determined in accordance with approved Graduate Student Support Guidelines.

Award payments are

  • made in accordance with the Graduate Student Support Guidelines;
  • may only be credited against educational fees to the recipient's Zayed University student account; and,
  • are pro-rated over the final 4 installments of the published fee schedule.

Award payments terminate and Zayed University reserves the right to recover scholarship monies paid if the recipient:

  • receives support other than Zayed University GTA, Zayed University GRA, or Zayed University Alumni Graduate Scholarship), or
  • withdraws from the program, or
  • takes leave, or
  • is dismissed for academic or other reasons.

The award is normally offered at the time of admission and is subject to final approval of the Vice-President.

Zayed University Alumni Graduate Scholarships

Zayed University alumni who receive full admission to a Zayed University master’s degree program are eligible for a scholarship valued at up to 10% tuition costs.

To be eligible to receive this award, students

  • must submit a complete Zayed University graduate program admission application prior to the published application deadline;
  • must receive an offer of full admission to a Zayed University graduate program (students with conditional or provisional admission are not eligible);
  • may not hold other major awards totaling ≥ AED 25,000 (excluding Zayed University GTA, Zayed University GRA, or Zayed University Graduate Merit Scholarship); and,
  • must hold a Zayed University baccalaureate or master’s degree.

Zayed University alumni graduate scholarships:

  • cannot be deferred.

All Zayed University alumni qualify for this award.

Award payments are determined in accordance with Graduate Student Support Guidelines and may only be credited against educational fees to the recipient’s Zayed University student account, pro-rated over the final 4 installments of the standard fee schedule.

Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantships

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) enhance the learning experience of Zayed University undergraduate students by complementing the activities of the course instructor.

GTA duties may include but are not limited to:

  • facilitating discussion sections or tutorials;
  • holding weekly office hours;
  • grading homework, exams or projects;
  • distributing and copying reading materials;
  • preparing answer keys or supplementary notes; and,
  • GTA recipients may be requested to attend the instructor's lecture regularly. This time is uncompensated.

Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) work with Zayed University faculty to conduct research.

GRA duties may include but are not limited to:

  • conducting literature reviews or library research;
  • conducting interviews;
  • collecting or analyzing data; and,
  • preparing articles, reports or presentations.

GTA and GRA recipients receive training under the mentorship and supervision of the instructor/research supervisor. GTA and GRA recipients and the instructor/research supervisor share joint responsibility for ensuring that each understands the division of work responsibilities.

The Office of Graduate Studies in collaboration with the Colleges and the University Library will provide a pre-experience workshop and orientation program for GTA and GRA recipients in fall and spring. Participation is mandatory for all graduate students receiving an appointment.

Students with current graduate course registrations are eligible to apply for these awards.

Students receiving a GTA/GRA award:

  • must be currently enrolled in a Zayed University master’s degree program;
  • must demonstrate English language proficiency to IELTS ≥ 6.5 (or equivalent);
  • will normally have completed at least 6 credit hours (Colleges may require a higher minimum number of credit hours) of graduate courses; and,
  • must be in good standing.
  • Selection is limited and competitive and not all applications are successful.
  • Zayed University employees are not eligible for GTA or GRA support.
  • A student may not concurrently hold a GTA and a GRA appointment,
  • The duration of a GTA/GRA appointment is one academic semester (as defined by the current Zayed University Catalog).

GTA/GRA appointments may be terminated with one month’s notice if the recipient

  • fails to maintain academic good standing, or
  • fails to adequately perform responsibilities.

GTA/GRA recipients may not simultaneously hold other on campus employment commitments.

GTA/GRA recipients are expected to work a minimum of

  • 15 hrs/week during the semester for a full GTA, or
  • 7.5 hrs/week for a half GTA.

Eligible students may be awarded a maximum of 4 GTA/GRA awards in a given program.

GTA/GRA applicants must submit the following documents to the Office of Graduate Studies at least two weeks prior to term commencement:

GTA Recipients will receive a monthly stipend from the Office of Graduate Studies as determined by approved Graduate Student Support Guidelines. As with most professional appointments the actual time worked/week may vary but the expectation is as follows:

  • Full GTA, 15 hrs/week/semester;
  • Half GTA, 7.5 hrs/week/semester.

Tuition credit is normally paid to the recipient’s student account as 4 equal payments, pro-rated over the final 4 installments according to the published schedule.

GRA Recipients will receive a monthly stipend from the Research Supervisor’s Grant as determined by approved Graduate Student Support Guidelines.

GTA awards are approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the College.

GRA awards are approved by the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs and Research on recommendation of the supervisor.

Zayed University Employee Graduate Education Scholarships

Limited and competitive scholarship support is provided for qualifying full-time Zayed University staff to assist in completing a Zayed University master’s program that directly supports their career development. The scholarship is valued at up to 40% of the published graduate program tuition.

Zayed University employees who meet all the following criteria may apply for support under the benefit:

  • are classified as staff as defined by Human Capital policy and procedure;
  • are not in their probation period or on leave;
  • have a regular full-time contract;
  • have worked at Zayed University for a minimum of 1 year prior to the published program admission deadline;
  • have been rated as “exceeded expectations” within the last three years of employment at Zayed University;
  • are recommended by their supervisor; and,
  • have received an offer of full admission to a Zayed University master’s degree program.
  • Support under this benefit is limited and competitive.
  • Studies taken under the employee benefit shall normally support the applicant’s career development.
  • The scholarship may not be deferred or transferred.
  • Support may not be held in combination with any other major (≥ AED 25,000) scholarship award.
  • Support is limited to the specified required courses corresponding to the approved program curriculum as listed in the current Zayed University Catalog.
  • Recipients enrolled in graduate courses must be in good academic and financial standing to retain eligibility; failure to do so may result in cancellation of the award.
  • Recipients have a responsibility to complete the program according to the published schedule; failure to make adequate academic progress may result in cancellation of the award.
  • Recipients must adhere to all Zayed University policies and procedures.
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum annual employee performance standing of "fully successful".
  • Candidates may only submit one application in any fiscal year.

Eligible Zayed University employees intending to apply for support under this program must first obtain full admission to a Zayed University graduate program.

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Office of Graduate Studies by the published deadline date:

Completed applications received by the deadline date will be reviewed by a selection panel composed of delegates from Human Capital and Office of Graduate Studies.

The selection panel determines the amount of scholarship, which may be up to 40% of the program fee. Their decision will take into account the benefit to the applicant in terms of developing his/her skills and knowledge as well as the benefit to the University from the applicant's proposed further study. The selection panel may also take into account staff recruitment and retention issues, as well as the current and potential future roles of the applicant.

Up to 5 awards will be made annually; 3 awards of which are reserved for Emirati employees.

  • The scholarship amount, determined by the Graduate Student Support Guidelines, is credited to the recipient’s student account as 4 equal payments according to the published schedule.
  • Recipients are responsible for the graduate program application fee (AED 400), the 10% non-refundable registration fee and any additional expenses including cost of out of sequence courses (e.g. course repeats), field trips etc.
  • Recipients will be billed for the total program costs if they resign from University employment or if their employment is terminated prior to one year following program completion.

The award is subject to final approval by the Vice-President.

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Higher Education Grant

Although the grants support Zayed University students to pursue their graduate education, they are not limited to the master’s degree programs offered by Zayed University. The University is but one of the many options students has to pursue their graduate education.

The following Zayed University master's degree programs qualify for the grant:

  • Executive Masters in Health Care Administration (EMHCA)
  • Executive Masters in Public Administration (EMPA)
  • Master of Arts (M.A.) in Diplomacy and International Affairs
  • Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration
  • Master of Education in Special Education
  • Master of Education in Teaching and Learning
  • Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communication Concentration in Tourism and Cultural Communication

ICT Fund

The ICT Fund, a subsidiary of the General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications sector (TRA), seeks to strengthen the technological education of UAE citizens by introducing the “Betha program” to help develop a generation well versed in science and technology, and who can lead the UAE’s future in the ICT industry.

The ICT Fund offers scholarships for distinguished UAE citizens who want to pursue Zayed University’s Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Technology (Specialization in Cyber Security) program.

To be eligible to receive this award, recipients

  • must be a UAE citizen and provide civil registry as proof;

  • achieved at least a CGPA of 3.00 and above for baccalaureate degrees;

  • must receive an offer of full admission to the Zayed University Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Technology (Specialization in Cyber Security) program; students with conditional or provisional admission are not eligible;

  • showcase good conduct; and,

  • have relevant work and research experience in ICT areas (information and communication technology, computer science, information security, etc.

Recipients must

  • abide by the  university and specialization  for which scholarship has been awarded;

  • not transfer to any other university or specialization unless with the written approval of the ICT Fund;

  • must comply with all rules, regulations and instructions issued by the ICT Fund, pursuant to the terms and conditions of the scholarship;

  • willing to serve in any organization related to the ICT sector within the UAE for two years after graduation (The ICT Fund may assist in finding job opportunities but there is no guarantee); and,

  • have not been a recipient of a scholarship or financial assistance  from any other entity.

The scholarship will cover the tuition fee of AED 96,000 in full and recipients will be granted a monthly salary of AED 10,000.


In case of employment, the recipient will be entitled for the scholarship that will cover the tuition fee of AED 96,000 in full without the monthly salary of AED 10,000.

The award is normally offered at the time of admission and is subject to final approval of the ICT Fund Committee.

Chalhoub Group Educational Scholarship

Chalhoub Group will sponsor two graduate degree scholarships in order to help talented students fund their master’s degree. Each scholarship will correspond to a total amount of fifty thousand UAE Dirhams for the graduate program offered.

The primary objective of the Chalhoub Group Educational Scholarship is to empower youth in the Middle East through innovative learning programs and dynamic partnerships to meet challenges of rapidly growing and changing socio-economic landscapes.  A key responsibility as a Chalhoub Scholar is to become involved in the local community and came to know some of the difficult realities faced by fellow community members.

The award is restricted to students who enroll in a Zayed University master’s degree in Business or Communications.  Students should also be interested to work in the retail/luxury industry in the Middle East.

Requirements for selected candidates:

  • Mentorship Initiative: Will interact with a professional at the Chalhoub Group to assist in the student’s academic development. Students will also have the opportunity to attend a “Job Shadow” day under the mentorship initiative.

  • Community Initiatives: Will be expected to participate and facilitate “IMPACT” campaigns. (Students will be expected to participate or host an initiative that encourages inter-culture dialogue particularly between the Middle East and the West.)

  • Leadership Engagement & Student Visit: May be required to attend “Scholar’s Day”, organized by Chalhoub Group. Students will have the opportunity to meet with Chalhoub Group CEO/s during a visit to the head office in Dubai to acquire deeper insights into Group values and business.

  • Must sign a Commitment Letter for Chalhoub Group Scholars.

To be eligible to receive this award, qualified students

  • must enter their first year of graduate study at Zayed University; and,

  • must receive an offer of full admission to a Zayed University master’s degree program; students with conditional or provisional admission are not eligible.

The award is focusing on students who enroll in a Zayed University master’s degree in Business or Communications.

Students should be interested to work for the retail/luxury industry in the Middle East.

False information may result in either the cancellation of an approved application or termination of scholarship.

Chalhoub Group reserves the right not to select a candidate if profile and qualifications do not meet expectation.

Submit the completed  Application for a Chalhoub Group Educational Scholarship to the Office of Graduate Studies with the following supporting documents:

Official academic transcript with translation in English (if necessary)

Official IELTS/TOEFL result

Applicants must submit one confidential letter of recommendation in English.

The letter should be from the applicant’s current line manager/supervisor (if employed) or from a line manager with whom the applicant has worked. A letter from a former teacher or professor is also appropriate, especially for applicants who do not have work experience.

Students are required to submit a letter of purpose in English addressing the following two points:

  • Why they are deserving of the Chalhoub Group Educational Scholarship; and,

  • What are their future career goals.

  • Limit the letter of purpose to two pages using 12 pt. font. Handwritten letters will not be accepted.

Copies of documents must be certified as true copies and may accompany the application form. Applicants are required to present their original documents at the time of the interview with the University’s Scholarship Committee.

The completed application form and supporting documents will be reviewed by the University’s Scholarship Committee.

A successful interview in English with the University’s Scholarship Committee is required and the results of the selection process will be conveyed to all successful candidates.

Selected candidates will be interviewed by the Chalhoub Educational Scholarship Committee and are required to sign a Letter of Commitment related to Chalhoub Group values. The Chalhoub Group representatives will assess:

  • interest in the luxury industry;

  • interest in the social and economic development of the Middle East;

  • interest in community development work; and,

  • enthusiasm to be a Chalhoub ambassador upholding the Groups values of respect, excellence and entrepreneurial spirit.
