Prior to his appointment as Vice President of Zayed University in 2006, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim held several  senior positions in fields such as Education, Politics and Culture, besides economic and financial responsibilities as Chairman of the UAE Cooperative Consumer Society. He also worked in the media and press as an editor and author. He gave several lectures at local and international conferences related to Education, Human Resource and Population issues and published a collection of his newspaper articles in a book entitled "A Call for Dialogue". He is also a play writer, researcher and lecturer.

Dr. Sulaiman is a graduate of Exeter University where he obtained his Ph.D. in Manpower Development in 1990, and his Master of  Philosophy in 1987. His first degree was a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, which he obtained from United Arab Emirates University in 1985. Prior to that, he earned (a diplomacy degree) from Oxford University, in 1975, and a Teacher's Diploma from the Ministry of Education in 1971. In addition to these qualifications, Dr Sulaiman has completed courses related to higher education at University of Bath, and University of Brighton in the United Kingdom, and at Harvard and Cornell Universities in the United States.

• Director of Community Relations and Manpower Development at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi, 1990 - 2006.
• Chief of the Emiri Court of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and Member of the Supreme Council between, 1975 - 1986.
• Member of the UAE Committee which drafted the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates, 1977.
• Representative of the UAE in a number of local and regional conferences on topics related to education, manpower development and economic cooperation.
• Member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Fujairah, the Fujairah National Insurance Company and the Emirates Broadcasting Corporation.
• Vice Chairman of the Governing Council of the Sultan Al Owais Cultural Award.
