Attendance and Entering / Leaving the Campus

ATTENDANCE

You must arrive at the University before the beginning of your first class and stay until your last class has ended, unless you have a Pass Privilege or receive special permission to leave campus as specified below.

You are expected to attend all classes for which you have registered, to arrive on time and remain for the entire period, and to participate actively in all assigned learning activities. If you arrive late or miss any part of a class, you will be marked absent. The University's computer network clock is the official timepiece used in determining absence.

Absence from Class

Absence percentages are calculated on the actual class days of the semester or term. The first time you exceed 10 percent absences, you will get a FINAL WARNING email. This means that you have used all your absences in this class. If you have another absence in this course, you will receive a WF. If you have two or more classes in which your receive a WF for attendance, you will be withdrawn from all of your other classes for the semester.

Student Maternity Leave

The student is encouraged to suspend her registration for the semester/term in which the baby is expected to be born. A maternity suspension for a term or semester to deliver a baby will not count as one of two attendance suspensions allowed for each student during her time at Zayed University.

If a student chooses not to utilize a semester or term maternity attendance suspension, but chooses to deliver her baby and return back to complete the semester she must stay within a 15 percent total semester absences requirement to receive credit for the class. However, if she chooses this option, but is away from class for more than this allowed 15 percent (for the entire semester) she must take a maternity suspension retroactively for the entire semester, even though she attended classes prior to the birth.

Missing a Class Because of an Off-Campus Activity

If you miss a class by attending a required off-campus class activity (field trip, class project), your absence will not be counted, provided the instructor of the course you are missing signs your off-campus permission slip. If the instructor will not approve your absence off campus, you will be counted absent in the class(es) you miss while off campus.

Attendance Withdrawal from Course

If you exceed the absence limit, you will be withdrawn from the course and receive a grade of "Withdrawal/Failing" (W/F). If you exceed the absence limit in two or more courses, you will receive "W/F" grades in these courses and your registration will be suspended for the term or semester. This means that you will not receive credit for any of the courses in which you are enrolled that semester.

You will not be allowed to continue in class, hand in homework, papers, or projects or take tests or quizzes. If you are withdrawn from a course because of attendance, you are responsible for using that time in the schedule constructively for study or learning activities in your remaining courses.

ENTERING / LEAVING CAMPUS

Attending Zayed University can be a major change of lifestyle for you and your family. You will meet not only faculty and staff of the University but also vendors, guests and other visitors. The University is sensitive to your family's concern that you are properly safeguarded while in the University, and that the individuals you meet are authorized to be on the Zayed University campus.

To ensure your security, the University campus is enclosed. Security personnel stationed at each entrance allow entry only to authorized persons. Security personnel have the authority to stop anyone from entering the campus without authorization. The security check also ensures that students do not leave campus without their family's permission. Students, parents and guardians, campus visitors and university employees must show proper respect for security personnel.

When you enroll in Zayed University, you receive a university identification card. You must pass this ID card in front of the card reader at the campus gate when you arrive on campus. You are expected to arrive at the University before the start of your first class and stay in the University until the end of your schedule for that day. Your parents or guardians may be provided with a copy of your class timetable.

If you have a medical or other valid appointment during the school day, you will be allowed to leave campus only upon confirmation from Student Services that your parent or guardian has given written or verbal permission for you to leave campus. The same process applies in special circumstances, such as illness or death in the family.

Students Entering Zayed University Without Their ID Cards

You will sign in at the gate. Security will log you into the system and check your name, picture and student status. This may take some time, especially during the busy enter/exit times, so be prepared to wait at the gate until you are logged in by Security. Even if you are late for classes, you will not be allowed to enter campus until you are logged in.

Leaving Campus:

Print a copy of your schedule and bring it to Enrollment Services where it will be stamped and dated. This will allow you to leave campus after your last scheduled class of the day.

When you leave the campus, Security will verify your schedule and your picture. This may take some time, especially during busy enter/exit times, so be prepared to wait at the gate until you are signed out by security. Security will keep the schedule when you leave the campus.

If you have forgotten your ID, you are expected to bring your ID card to campus the next day or purchase a new one. If have lost your ID you will need to purchase a new one for 50dhs. (Go to Enrollment Services for information on how to do this.)

* Students with a Pass-Privilege (Green Card), who do not have their ID card, will not be able to leave campus until after their final class of the day.

If you have entered campus without your ID card, you must leave campus through the same gate you entered.

Students failing to follow these procedures will be referred to Student Affairs for disciplinary action that may involve suspension or dismissal from Zayed  University.

Pass Privilege Green Card

The Pass Privilege Green Card allows baccalaureate students in good standing or married students (with documentation) to qualify for a privilege pass (green card) under the following conditions:

1) The University will notify parents and/or guardians of the opportunity to sign for the pass privilege.

2) The parent and/or guardian will be the only person permitted to sign for a Pass Privilege for the student. Once this note has been received, parents and/or guardians may come to the Registration office to complete the paperwork signing necessary to allow their student access to this card if they meet the above criteria.

Visitors

Students are not allowed to bring friends or guests to campus. If you need to bring a guest or visitor to campus to participate in an academic activity or program, you should obtain permission from Student Services at least one day prior to the event.

Hours of Operation

You may stay on campus to work on class assignments, projects, or student activities from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays (Sunday to Thursday) on days when classes or final examinations are in session, except for University declared holidays and semester and summer breaks.

While on campus, you may not use faculty or staff desks, computers or telephones without prior written permission. Food may be consumed only in the cafeteria. You are not allowed on campus on Fridays, Saturdays (outside of Library hours), semester or summer breaks, or University declared holidays unless participating in an organized project supervised by a faculty member. You must record your entry and exit by using your ID card at the appropriate card reader.

University Responsibility for Student Security

The University can accept responsibility for your security only while you are on campus. After you leave campus, your security is your own or your guardian's responsibility.
