Zayed University Learning Outcomes

College coursework and out-of-class experiences provide opportunities for students to develop competency as well as to document achievement in the Zayed University Learning Outcomes.

College Principles

The principles of professional knowledge, global awareness, cultural responsiveness, and professionalism  create the foundation for all College of Education programs.  These principles have been translated into learning outcomes for the College.

Major College Learning Outcomes

  • Professional Knowledge:  Graduates develop knowledge of how learning occurs; knowledge of the role of families and community in learning; and knowledge of effective systems that promote quality education.
  • Global Awareness:  Graduates develop understanding  of  the global society in which they live and the need for viewing issues from multiple perspectives.  Graduates develop knowledge of social responsibility as a fundamental objective extending to all humanity; knowledge of the fundamental rights of the individual and society at large, which requires each to fulfill responsibilities to each other;  and knowledge that current actions and behavior have  consequences for  future generations.
  • Cultural Responsiveness :  As a college of education we value the Emirati culture and consider cultural responsiveness from the Emirati perspective.  Graduates develop understanding  that a fundamental principle of education is taking into consideration the rights of others and according them the respect they deserve;  that all individuals should be accorded the opportunity to learn and grow and be able to contribute to the wider society in which they live; that true cultural responsiveness removes the divisive effects of race and social stratification.
  • Professionalism: Graduates of the College participate effectively, are committed to lifelong learning, are morally and ethically responsible, and demonstrate care and commitment as they continue in their profession.

Academic Program

The College of Education undergraduate program is committed to providing students with excellent preparation for careers in the educational service sector.  Its programs are based on the belief that  effective education is essential to the sustainable development of the nation. Accomplished graduates  gain the essential knowledge and develop the skills necessary to serve effectively in schools, or in arenas that strive to improve the education  and social development of children, families and communities in the UAE.  All graduates will have met the high standards of the college and demonstrate professional ethics and desire to contribute to the improvement of education in the AUE.

Accomplished teachers know their subject matter well, and they understand how children learn and develop.  They have high expectations for their students' learning.  They know a variety of teaching methods and can use them to help students learn.  Accomplished teachers are caring and creative and know how to establish a positive learning atmosphere for their students.  Zayed University draws upon these understandings in its teacher preparation program.

Accomplished graduates in non-teaching fields of education are well prepared as they participate in both coursework and field experiences appropriate for their professional roles outside the classroom.

The employment outlook for graduates is excellent as the nation continues to place emphasis on education reform and the need for highly qualified teachers in UAE schools increases.
