Internship

Criteria for Admission to Internship

Entrance to Internship consists of successful completion of all discipline and education courses with C- or better and successful completion of all practicum experiences.

Each student does her internship or student teaching for a specified number of weeks during the last semester of her program. Learning outcomes for the internship are included among competencies specified for each of the College's Major Learning Outcomes, which are available from College advisors. Each of these competencies is introduced and reinforced in earlier courses and mastered during the internship. Students are assessed continuously using a variety of instruments included in their internship handbook.

All major coursework must be completed prior to internship. Students must complete an application to be admitted to a teaching internship during the final semester.  Application forms may be obtained on each campus from the Director of Field Services.  The internship is supervised by college faculty and a school mentor teacher.  Internship placement is upon the advice of the Director of Field Services in consultation with students, schools and the Ministry of Education.

Internship Completion
Successful completion of the internship is determined by the College of Education. Supervising faculty members and mentor teachers review students' knowledge of their teaching areas as well as their abilities to plan, implement, and assess instruction.  In addition, students are expected to demonstrate the dispositions of professional educators.
