The College of Education Learning Outcomes

College coursework and out-of-class experiences provide opportunities for students to develop competency and to document achievement in the Zayed University Learning Outcomes.

Major Learning Outcomes and Assessment Protocols

College of Education students are expected to be Leaders for Learning.  To accomplish that goal, students must demonstrate performance in the College's Major Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate Understanding of Professional Knowledge:  Graduates develop knowledge of how learning occurs; the interrelationships between teaching and learning; and the role of families and community in learning.  Graduates entering a teaching field will understand how to effect changes in the learning of their students.  Graduates entering a non-teaching field will be able to apply the professional knowledge base to all aspects of education and social development, including policy, moral, social, and ethical issues.  They will also be able to examine how self-study may influence these issues.
  • Demonstrate Global Awareness:  Graduates develop knowledge and an understanding of the global society in which they live, and the need for viewing issues from multiple perspectives.  Graduates develop positive attitudes about responsibility for others as a fundamental belief extending to all humanity.  They develop knowledge and attitudes about fundamental human and societal rights, the responsibilities they have to each other, and awareness that current actions and behavior have consequences for future generations.  Graduates use these skills and knowledge to build and work with diverse communities, devising solutions for emerging issues.
  • Demonstrate Cultural Responsiveness:  Because the College of Education values the Emirati culture and considers cultural responsiveness from the Emirati perspective a core value, graduates develop an understanding that a fundamental principle of education is the necessity to take into consideration the rights of others and to accord them the respect they deserve. In doing so, graduates acknowledge that all individuals should be accorded the opportunity to learn and grow and be able to contribute to the wider society in which they live.  A core belief for graduates is that true cultural responsiveness removes the divisive effects of race, ethnicity, and social divisions.
  • Demonstrate Professionalism: Graduates of the College participate effectively in the fields of education and community services. They are committed to lifelong learning, are morally and ethically responsible, demonstrate care and commitment as they actively continue to contribute to their profession, disseminate knowledge, and approach learning with an investigative and critical mind.
