IntroductionWelcome to the College's accreditation site. We are preparing for an accreditation review by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), based in the United States. We chose to seek direct accreditation from NCATE because of its support system, its high standards, and its long history of working with colleges and schools of education to ensure the preparation of highly qualified, competent, and caring teachers and other school professionals. As we as a faculty have worked, and sometimes struggled, with NCATE`s expectations, we have nothing but support for the process. The standards are reasonable and set forth what each and every college of education should accomplish. What faculty would not want their students to know and understand the professional knowledge base? What university would not want a college of education to keep records and reports of student performance and accomplishments? Colleges of education, if they follow the best that is known from research, will offer programs with strong clinical components and by doing so will also contribute to school improvement and student learning. The world has changed and is more global, so future teachers must understand global issues, going beyond their own borders to think conceptually about how their work is influenced by global politics, the global economy, and the global use of technologies. We emphasize culture in our College. We live and work in a nation that has been referred as a model for the future, with many nationalities and cultures living in harmony. Cultural awareness subsumes issues of diversity and, in our opinion, enriches our discussion and study. Of course, we want a diverse faculty that collectively offers many points of view and experiences that enhance our curriculum and give our students the opportunity to learn about nations and cultures other than their own.
