Bio

Munawwar Ali Khan received his PhD in 2001 from University of Tokyo, Japan. He is currently Associate Professor of Natural Science and Public Health at Zayed University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. His research work is in the general area of environmental microbiology and biotechnology. His specific focus is on developing and applying in situ (direct) molecular biological methods to detect microorganisms in water, wastewater, food and clinical samples. He is also working on the use Quantum dots/nanocrystals linked antibodies, DNA/RNA gene probes for the identification and characterization of the microbial communities (including pathogenic microorganisms of public health relevance) in food, water and wastewater systems.

Research and Professional Activities

“Monitoring microbial diversity of wastewater treatment systems in the UAE” Research Incentive grant of  AED 75,000 awarded in February 2010.

 “Antibiotic resistance pattern of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus species in the United Arab Emirates” Start-up Grants of AED 10,000 awarded in October 2009.
