Research and Professional Activities

Contemporary Social Design Practice through TASMENA | TASMENA is a newly initiated interdisciplinary design platform believing everyone can actively contribute to sustainable city-making. Through series of laboratories, workshops, competitions, forums, and publications, TASMENA aims to create a space for people to connect, collaborate, explore, and implement design solutions across disciplines. TASMENA launched MENAseries: a biannual public design series with a number of workshops, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, performances, and activities on relevant critical issues of society. The first year is a local exploration of the various aspects of Designing Change followed by a regional expansion next year. The MENAlab 2010 was an intensive week long interdisciplinary laboratory generating ideas and concepts for Designing Change with over 70 people participating in a dynamic environment held from Jan 29 to Feb 6 in Bastakiya. The events for the year will conclude in MENAdesign; a design festival, which discusses, reviews and reflects on design solutions derived from the workshops and the awards. The MENAseries Designing Change will culminate into an exhibition and publication.
