Ronald HawkerAssociate Professor B.A.(Hons) History in Art, University of Victoria, 1985. BioI have a PhD in art history from the University of British Columbia and specialize in tribal art and design. I’ve published two books: Tales of Ghosts: First Nations Art in British Columbia, 1922-1962, an examination of the politics of Northwest Coast art in the middle third of the twentieth century; and Building on Desert Tides: Traditional Architecture in the Arabian Gulf, a survey of heritage buildings across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Oman and southern Iran.

I just submitted a book manuscript on the totem pole carver, Charlie James, to the University of Washington Press for peer review and am currently working on a book manuscript on the relationship between built and natural environments in the traditional architecture and settlements of the United Arab Emirates.
