Bio

Janet Bellotto is an artist, writer and curator from Toronto. She graduated from the Sculpture/Installation program at OCAD University (formerly Ontario College of Art & Design), Toronto, and received an MFA in Sculpture/Studio Arts from Concordia University, Montreal. Her work encompasses sculpture, installation, photography, video and performance and has exhibited in various cities including Beijing, Dubai, New York, Mexico City and Venice. Exhibitions include: 2009 – Point of Encounter, Tashkeel, Dubai; 2008 – WAVE, The LAB, New York City, and Chinese Character Biennial, KU Art Centre, Beijing.

Also an editorial contributor for dART magazine, Toronto, Bellotto is engaged with various initiatives in the UAE art community, where she co-organized EMERGE: Ways of Worldmaking – an exhibition featuring work by student, faculty and alumni, coinciding with the 2009 Venice Biennial.

Research and Professional Activities

i.. “The Deserted Nautilus” is a research project to develop a body of work that looks at aspects of transformation and change, and culture’s imprint on a natural environment.  

ii. January 2010– Drowning Ophelia, Stratford Gallery, Stratford: A group show featuring the work “Diluvian Lure”. A review of the exhibition appeared in C Magazine, Spring 2010.

iii. February 2010 –The Reflective Mirror –An exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters, New York City, USA

iv. 12 December 2010 to 12 February 2011 – Participation in the 12^th Cairo Biennial
