Program Goals and Mission

The Academic Bridge Program of Zayed University uses appropriate methodology and technology to prepare students so that they can function effectively in English medium studies at a tertiary level and at an internationally recognized standard. Students will also develop the competence in English language to function effectively in an increasingly bilingual environment, as leading members of the workforce and of the community. They will acquire the skills of independent lifelong learning.

The goals of the Academic Bridge Program are to help students

  • become successful autonomous learners;
  • apply critical thinking skills in finding and making use of information systems;
  • develop the skills of self-assessment and self-monitoring;
  • develop the skills of working in groups and as leaders while achieving learning goals;
  • develop the reading skills required in order to understand written texts relevant to their needs;
  • develop the writing skills required in order to produce relevant written texts at the required level of competency;
  • develop listening skills in order to understand relevant spoken texts; and,
  • develop fluent and accurate speaking skills to interact appropriately and at the required level.

Because English is the language of instruction at Zayed University, the Academic Bridge Program plays a key role through the University's Readiness Program, strengthening students' English abilities so that they can successfully study their academic courses in the baccalaureate programs through the medium of English.
