The Academic Bridge Program Course Books
To more effectively meet the needs of Zayed University students, a series of course books has been created. The series is designed to ensure that students develop the academic and linguistic skills necessary for success in their future academic studies. The books combine the strengths of many current approaches to language teaching. They are content-based, integrated in terms of skills, and have been designed around tasks that reflect those which students will meet in their future studies. They are updated and revised on a regular basis. The books are specially designed for Gulf students, taking into account their specific needs, interests, and educational and cultural backgrounds. This series is also being used by other institutions in the Gulf region.
A separate course book is available for each level of the Academic Bridge Program. There are four units for each level and each unit contains 30 hours of work. Students spend 15 hours per week using the book. The remaining 5 hours of class time is spent on accuracy work, focusing on developing grammar and vocabulary.
Each unit is based around a different academic topic. Working with different topics allows students to develop the language they need for their future studies. Each unit contains a reading text, a listening text and an output task. The reading and listening texts and tasks help the students to produce the output task at the end of each part.
