The Academic Bridge Program Curriculum
What is the Academic Bridge Program Curriculum?
The Academic Bridge Program Curriculum provides a framework for the teaching of the language and academic skills necessary for success at Zayed University.
The curriculum is divided into 6 levels. Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are sequenced and taught in a systematic manner through an integrated skills approach, where tasks, based on content, require the interaction of several skills for the completion of the task.
How is a student placed in the Academic Bridge Program ?
Students wishing to enter Zayed University are placed in an Academic Bridge Program level based on their CEPA scores.
How long is each course?
Each level consists of one course, which is 9 weeks long. The exception to this is the Level 3 stretch course which is 20 weeks.
Students spend 20 hours each week in class.
What does a student do in the weekly 20 hours?
The 20 hours are divided into two strands (strands represent emphasis and are not in separate blocks of time). The two strands are Core and Accuracy. Each strand focuses on different needs of the students.
Core: This strand is 15 hours (and represents 75% of the course). Students develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as improving their vocabulary. They also learn the academic skills necessary for university study.
Accuracy: This strand is 5 hours (and represents 25% of the course). Here, students learn the grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively in an academic environment. Students aim to perfect their written and spoken English. |
