The English Language Center’s primary purpose is to ensure that all students entering the baccalaureate programs have achieved the standard for English language proficiency required for admission. A student who has yet to reach the standard is automatically enrolled in the Academic Bridge Program; the English as a foreign language program which prepares students for admission to the university degree programs. The Academic Bridge Program consists of six levels, each lasting approximately nine weeks. Depending on entry level, a student may spend between nine weeks (entering at the highest level) and two years (entering at the lowest level) learning English. In addition to supporting and developing students’ English language abilities, the Academic Bridge Program aims to enhance students’ academic skills, increase their ability to use and incorporate technology in the learning process and widen their general knowledge base. The Academic Bridge Program is a well defined, integrated skills, theme-based program taught by experienced and committed English Language Center faculty. |
