Research and Development Program
Innovative Solutions for a Prosperous Future

The ITI's R & D program initiates collaborative research and development efforts appropriate to the economic and educational context of the GCC. Our aim is to reinforce the R & D relationship between industry and academia. Students and faculty have access to a vast network that will expose them to the latest technological breakthroughs, innovative applications and most current research methodologies.

“Among the reasons are weak network links between R&D institutions and the production and service sectors and the absence of, or marked gaps in, vital innovation “brokers” such as research institutes and think tanks that occupy an intermediary position between R&D production and marketing.”

Pervasive Computing

Future Concepts and Technologies

The
ITI is researching novel pervasive computing concepts on the mobile phone. The initial emphasis is on applications and systems that are mobile enabled because of the pervasive nature of the mobile phone. Interesting applications are being developed on the mobile phone platform which is the most pervasive platform to date.

  • UDrive

  • InBoss

  • BlueStream

are all applications that are pervasive in nature, and developed for the mobile phone.

Cryptography

The science of cryptography has not received much attention at the University level in the Middle East. The ITI is focusing on building awareness of this topic among students and faculty members alike by building a research group that focuses on developing cryptography algorithms and researching new ideas in cryptography.
The main research project at this stage focuses on One Time Pads, the most secure encryption algorithm known to man and by far the one that seems impossible to crack.
( There are no known attacks on One Time Pad based systems ).
The project aims to build a lean, portable One Time Pad that could be used in enterprise systems to secure data in the middle east.
The research objective is to code in C a one Time Pad Encryption algorithm and make the source code available to anyone through Open Source.
Currently the web page for the project is under construction and will be launched soon with a mailing list, a group of online resources.

Faculty members and students interested in participating in this project should contact Mr. Kamal Mugahid Elzain at ITI at the following email address.

Symbian

Mobile phone manufacturers have adopted a new operating system – Symbian OS – to meet an increasing range of user requirements. The introduction of packet-switched 2.5G and 3G networks, which bring with them the promise of always- connected devices, has built up a great deal of expectation.
Symbian OS (Operating System) is the global industry standard operating system for smartphones. It is used by the majority of leading hand set manufacturers, thus accounting for over 85 per cent of annual worldwide mobile phone sales.
ITI develops all its mobile  applications for the Symbian OS because of the widespread adoption of Symbian.
Currently the preferred handset of choice is the Symbian powered Sony Ericsson P900.

BlueTooth

Is a wireless technology used to connect electronic devices, some of which are cellular phones, printers, digital cameras and palm top computers. It is short ranged, but designed to exchange data at speeds up to 720 kbits/sec in the range of 10 meters.

Bluetooth, and not blue tooth, was named after the Danish King Harald Blatand (Bluetooth), the man who unified Denmark and Norway.

As of 2004,  Bluetooth Technology is available on nearly all mobile phone devices thereby achieving near ubiquity, hence new applications and services that use Bluetooth will continue to grow in the next few years.

Our Showcase

In our showcase we display a set of different innovative ideas that we developed in-house or along with our partners. Moreover, several events are to be held in order to show the valuable content of our showcase.
