Abdullah
was appointed to the position of Director of the
ITI at Zayed University in January
2003. He came to this post from the position
of Assistant Dean in the College of Information
Systems. He is also Project Director for the ‘ZU
e-biz challenge'.
Before coming to the U.A.E., Abdullah taught
computer and mathematical science courses at the
University of Akron and the University Wisconsin.
He was also Vice President of Engineering for a
telecommunications company in Akron, Ohio.
Abdullah Abonamah holds United States
Patent #6,550,018 in the area of "Fault
Tolerant Computing". Abdullah
has been the recipient of several research grants.
He has published many scientific articles in the
areas of information technology, computer science
and computer engineering. Abdullah is currently a
member of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering (IEEE), and the
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
Abdullah is passionate about recreational jogging
and also enjoys reading, cooking and having a good
time hanging out with friends.

Dr. Yousif Asfour

Dr. Yousif Asfour is currently at Injazat Data
Systems, an IT outsourcing company based in Abu
Dhabi. Prior to joining Injazat, Dr. Asfour was the
Chair of the Information Technology Department at
the American University in Dubai. Dr. Asfour has
held several engineering, consulting, and executive
positions at software and information technology
companies in the USA. His most recent positions were
Vice President of Engineering at dbDoctor, a
software development company, and Chief Information
Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Inflow, a
managed services company with several data centers
across the US.
Dr. Asfour holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical
Engineering from Northeastern University, and a
Ph.D. in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston
University.

Dr. Rafi Ashrafi

Dr. Ashrafi has over 20 years of post-doctoral
teaching, research and consulting experience in the
UK, Middle East and Canada. Before joining the
Information Systems Department in the College of
Commerce and Economics at the Sultan Qaboos
University in Muscat, Oman, Dr. Ashrafi worked as a
project manager and senior consultant in industry,
government and business in Canada. Before that, Rafi
was a researcher and an adjunct professor at the
University of Calgary in Project Management (a joint
program of the faculties of Engineering and Haskayne
School of Business), where he taught undergraduate
as well as graduate courses in project management.
Dr. Ashrafi has published over 30 papers in
international journals and conference proceedings.
His areas of interest and research include: IT/IS
Project Management, Strategic Information Systems,
and E-Business/E-Commerce Strategy, e-learning and
Knowledge Management. Dr. Ashrafi is a Certified
Project Management Professional; (PMP) of PMI-USA, a
Chartered Information Systems Engineer (C.Eng.), a
Chartered Information Systems Practitioner (CITP)
and a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS).

Hesham El-Sayed

Hesham El-Sayed received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Carleton
University in 1999. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the
College of Information Technology, United Arab Emirates University. His
broad research interests span the areas of IP Networking, Mobile and
Wireless Networks, and Software Performance Engineering. Before joining
the United Arab Emirates University, Dr. El-Sayed held several
industrial positions at Nortel Networks, Wind River Systems, and Paragon
Networks (was acquired by Carrier Access Corporation).

Maha Shakir

Maha Shakir is an Assistant Professor of Information
Systems at Zayed University. Her primary research
areas are information system strategy, strategic
management of information systems, and the
implementation of enterprise system applications
(e.g., ERP, SCM, and CRM). Maha is carrying her work
forward with a focus on the use of IT in
inter-organization integration, particularly the
study of electronic exchanges. Her current work
involves studies of enterprise systems in the Arab
Gulf Countries and e-procurement in the petroleum
industry in the Middle East. Her publications
appeared in the University of Auckland Business
Review, Journal of Cases on Information Technology,
International Journal of Information Systems and
Change Management, Journal of Decision Systems, ERP
edited books, Laudon & Laudon MIS textbook, and
several international IS conferences.
Maha’s case study "E-Procurement through Supply
Chain Integration: Reaching out to SMBs," recently
won First Prize in the Society for Information
Management’s 2006 Paper Awards Competition [www.simnet.org].
The case was developed in collaboration Graham Smith
and Erkan Gulec.

Jennifer Orford

Jenny has worked for the ITI for the past three
years in both consultant and project management
roles.
Prior moving to Dubai Jenny spent ten years as Head
of Information Technology at Mowbray College and was
also an active member of the Board of Management for
the Victorian Information Technology Teachers’
Association in Victoria (VITTA), Australia. Jenny
has extensive experience in teaching a wide range of
subject areas, including Information Technology and
Graphic Communication. Her work in the IT field over
the years has involved teaching school students of
every age as well as the professional development of
IT teachers.
Through her teaching, educational coordination roles
and her work with VITTA Jenny has gained extensive
experience in IT training, publishing, project
management and conference planning and organization.

Brian O'Flynn

Brian received his MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi in 1999. Moving to Zayed University, he served as a faculty member before taking on the responsibility of content managing the university’s web presence.
Prior to coming to Dubai, Brian worked in the USA, Turkey, Kuwait, Greece and the U.K., primarily in teaching or consultative roles.
Brian has worked in the fields of education and information technology for over two decades. He has presented papers on the technology and education at a number of international conferences, most recently at HighEdWebDev 2006, the leading forum tailored specifically for Web developers working in the field of higher education. He is a member of the Usability Professionals Association and AIIM Europe.

Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer
Engineering, California State Polytechnic
University, M.S. in Economics, and Pacific States
University, B.S. in Electronics Engineering.
He has been a professor with the California State
Polytechnic University, University of Petroleum and
Minerals, in Saudi Arabia, National Engineering
Institute (INELEC), in Algeria, Florida Institute of
Technology, Florida Atlantic University, Boston
University, University of Heidelberg, in Germany,
University of LaVern, Ioannina University in Greece,
Texas A&M International University, Institute for
Educational Research, in Mexico, and with the
American University of Sharjah.
He is the author of numerous papers, and of two
books ‘Digital Engineering’ and ‘Greece and the
European Economic Community’. His current research
focuses on the use of the Internet in education,
commerce and government. Dr. Kostopoulos is also the
chairman of the Business & Technology Advisory Board
of the Khoie Group, a Dubai based multinational
enterprise.

Dr. El-Sayed is currently an Assistant Professor at
the College of Information Technology, United Arab
Emirates University. He received his Ph.D. in
Systems and Computer Engineering from Carleton
University, Canada, in 1999. His broad research
interests span the areas of Mobile and Wireless
Networks, IP Networking, Data Mining in
Telecommunications, and Software Performance
Engineering.
Before joining the United Arab Emirates University
in 2003, Dr. El-Sayed
held several industrial positions at Nortel
Networks, Wind River Systems, and Paragon Networks
(was acquired by Carrier Access Corporation). Dr.
El-Sayed is also a certified COGNOS EBI Consultant.
During his tenure in industry, Dr. El-Sayed was
honored with several awards, including Nortel
Networks President's Award of Excellence in the
Category Leadership in 1999. Nortel Networks Vice
President's of Advanced Software and Networking
Technology Award of Excellence in 1998, and Paragon
Networks CEO's Award of Excellence in 2001.
Dr. El-Sayed is a member of IEEE and has been a
regular reviewer of many international conferences
and journals.
