Purpose and Motivations
The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners interested in new Web technologies and applications and to discuss the latest advanced technologies with focus on next-generation information systems. The World Wide Web offers a platform for an increasing number of new Web technology and applications that have a major impact on e-business as well as everyday life.
The WWW has become the standard computing platform for the development of next-generation information systems. A new wave of Web-based applications such as corporate portals, supply chain automation, and online marketplaces, is driving the need for a more open, flexible, adaptable, and distributed infrastructure. In addition, Web applications are required to be ubiquitous, highly scalable, reliable, accessible from different devices, usable, and personalized with respect to various user requirements. In this setting, new Web technologies and applications are becoming increasingly complex thereby creating a need for appropriate theoretical foundations, development methodologies, and supporting technology. The ‘New Web Technologies and Applications" workshop at CIT 2009 aims at promoting research directions on novel applications of the WWW, by providing a forum where academic and industry researchers can share and disseminate relevant and innovative ideas.
High quality papers in new Web technologies and applications are solicited. Papers describing new methods or technologies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance, and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions.

Workshop Objectives
The objective of the proposed NWTA’09 workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange new ideas, developments, and experiences on the issues related to new Web technologies and applications. The anticipated outcome of the workshop is to assess and discuss the approaches and evaluate critically the next steps in pursuing the topics in this area. There is a great opportunity of creating the core of a consortium for future R&D projects that academia and industry bodies could initiate. Because the workshop addresses an emerging and important area, a good number of submissions (15 to 20) and participants (about 30) are expected.
Paper Submission and Publication
Submissions describing original research are categorized as follows.
In addition to the above, hands-on
demonstrations (2-page descriptions of the demo) are welcome. All types
(including hands-on demonstrations) of submissions will be reviewed by at least
two reviewers. Accepted full papers must demonstrate technical quality,
relevance to the workshop topic, and proper quality of writing. Workshop
proceedings will be made available for the workshop in electric form via CD and
the workshop Web page. Full papers will be published in the IEEE CEC
proceedings.
