Workshop On

Web Privacy and Trust (WPT’2009)

To be held in conjunction with

The 2009 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference

September 15-18, 2009, Milan, Italy

 http://www.wi-iat09.disco.unimib.it/

Purpose and Motivations

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners interested in Web Intelligence (WI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to discuss the latest advanced technologies in the Internet field with focus on Web security, integrity, privacy, and trust.

The Web has tremendously revolutionized the way we gather, process, and use information. At the same time, it had redefined the meanings of several aspects related to day-to-day businesses such as marketing, finance, education, etc. This workshop is expected to stimulate discussions about the future development of appropriate models, methods, and tools for building a variety of Web-based intelligent information systems. However these models, methods, and tools need to take into account security, integrity, privacy, and trust challenges that are put on these systems.

High quality papers in Web Privacy and Trust are solicited. Papers describing new methods or technologies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance, and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions.

Workshop Objectives

The objective of the proposed WPT’09 workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange new ideas, developments, and experiences on the issues related to WI and AI. Discussions will focus on where the state of the art is, where the challenges lie, and what practices are needed to enable and sustain a bright future. The anticipated outcome of the workshop is to assess and discuss the approaches and evaluate critically the next steps in pursuing the topics in this area. There is a great opportunity of creating the core of a consortium for future R&D projects that academia and industry bodies could initiate. Furthermore, the results of this workshop will contribute significantly in recognizing the importance of how WI and AI could foster the development of other fields such as Web services. Because the workshop addresses an emerging and important area, a good number of submissions (15 to 20) and participants (about 30) are expected.

Paper Submission and Publication

Submissions describing original research are categorized as follows.

In addition to the above, hands-on demonstrations (2-page descriptions of the demo) are welcome. All types (including hands-on demonstrations) of submissions will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. Accepted full papers must demonstrate technical quality, relevance to the workshop topic, and proper quality of writing. Workshop proceedings will be made available for the workshop in electric form via CD and the workshop Web page. Full papers will be published in the IEEE CEC proceedings.
